NB Curriculum Framework for Early Learning and Childcare

Valuing Early Learning and Child Care in Action

I would like to take a few minutes of your time today to introduce you to a new initiative that our Centre will be undertaking over the next few months… the"CAT”.

CAT stands for Collaborative Assessment Tool and it is a tool of self-reflection that the Educators and I will be working with as we explore how we make visible the ways that we are caring for and learning with the children in our Centre

The way that the CAT works is beginning in March each week we will have conversations about and reflect on the practices within our classrooms and the Centre as a whole.  We will have poster boards up around the Centre where the Educators and I will contribute our thoughts on that week’s topic.  We are also inviting all of you, our families, to be active participants with this process.  Please feel free to add your comments each and every week.

The first five weeks our topics of discussion are as follows:

Valuing Children

Valuing Interactions and Relationships

Valuing Culture and Language

Valuing Environments

Valuing Documentation

Then we will spend the next four weeks exploring how we are promoting the Curriculum’s broad based learning goals of:

Well-Being

Play and Playfulness

Communication and Literacies

Diversity and Social Responsibility

The goal of this process is for the Educators and I to identify and celebrate our strengths and also set a goal to focus on an area that we would like to explore a little more.

We are very excited about the CAT and welcome your collaboration on this process.  If you would like to learn more about the CAT please don’t hesitate to ask.
